Photo Cropping & Digital File Care Guide
Helping you print and protect your photos for years to come.

You've Got Your Photos, Now What?

Your images are more than just files, they're part of your family's story. Let’s make sure they last.

What is Cropping?

Cropping happens when a print size (aspect ratio) doesn’t match the original image, trimming parts of the photo. Some sizes cut off more than others, so it’s important to choose wisely. For example, a 4x6 print keeps the full image, but an 8x10 crops parts off.

How Can You Avoid Unwanted Cropping?

To keep the full image, choose these sizes: 4x6, 8x12, 16x24, 20x30.

Printing Your Photos

Your images are delivered as high-resolution JPEGs and are ready for printing. For the best quality:

  • Print from original files (not screenshots or social media downloads).

  • Use professional labs for accurate color and sharp details.

  • Avoid drugstore or kiosk printers (they often crop without warning and distort colors).

Choosing the Right Print Size

Think about where your photos will go:

  • Wall art: Larger sizes (16x24, 20x30) make a statement.

  • Frames: Match the frame opening or mat size.

  • Gifts: Smaller prints (4x6, 5x7, 8x10) are great for sharing.

Important Printing Tips

  • Turn off auto-corrections when ordering prints—your images are fully edited.

  • Color may vary slightly from screen to print due to monitor calibration.

  • Cropping matters! If choosing a size that crops, make sure key details aren’t near the edges.

How to Care for Your Digital Files

Your high-resolution files are built to last, but technology can fail. Take these simple steps to keep them safe:

  • Back them up!

    • Download all images right away and store in multiple places:

      • Your computer

      • An external hard drive or USB

      • Cloud storage (Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, etc.)

    • Refresh backups every 2–3 years to avoid hardware failures.

  • Print your photos!

    • Digital files are great, but nothing beats seeing your memories on your walls and in albums. Your future self (and your kids) will thank you.

FAQs

  • What size should I print for a gallery wall? Go bigger than you think! For impact, try 16x24 or 20x30. For smaller spaces, 11x14 or 16x20 works well.

  • Can I print my photos anywhere? Yes, but I recommend professional labs for the best quality. Drugstore and discount printers often distort colors and crop images unpredictably.

  • Do you offer prints and products? Yes! You can order prints directly from your gallery—they’re printed through top labs for the best quality.

  • What if I lose my files? Your gallery is available for 1 month after your session. After that, a $100 reactivation fee applies.
